One of the most promising field in heterogeneous catalysis, increasingly oriented to realize materials with even higher selectivity and efficacy, is represented by the production of hierarchical zeolites, able to overcome the major drawbacks related to the dimensions of the zeolitic micropores by reducing the steric limitations and the rate of intracrystalline diffusion for reactants and products.
The thesis work will be focused on the synthesis of hierarchical zeolites, i.e. zeolitic materials possessing different levels of porosities (both micro- and mesopores), mainly following soft-templating synthesis routes, employing both commercial and non-commercial templating agents. An advanced characterization step, by means of different characterization techniques (such as powder XRD, N2 adsorption at 77 K, EDX-TEM and in situ FT-IR spectroscopy with probe molecules) will be carried out with the aim to achieve a deep knowledge of the structural arrangement and how an effective zeolitic lattice is disposed in the multi-level porous system.
