Program

LEVEL A2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) 2

Listening comprehension: Understanding words and expressions used very frequently related to oneself (e.g., basic information about oneself and one's family, shopping, local geography, and work). Grasping the essentials of short, simple, and clear messages and announcements.

Reading comprehension: Being able to read very short and simple texts and find specific and predictable information in everyday material, such as advertisements, programs, menus, and schedules. Understanding simple and short personal letters.

Oral production: Being able to communicate in simple and routine tasks that require only an exchange of information on common topics and activities. Participating in short conversations, although usually not understanding enough to sustain the conversation. Using a range of expressions and phrases to describe one's family and other people, living conditions, educational background, and current (or most recent) job. Having sufficient vocabulary to express essential communicative needs.

Written production: Being able to write simple notes and short messages on topics related to immediate needs. Being able to write a very simple personal letter (e.g., to thank someone).

Sociolinguistic appropriateness: Being able to perform basic language acts, such as making requests and exchanging information, responding, and expressing simple opinions and attitudes. Being able to socialize in a simple yet effective manner, using the most basic common expressions and adhering to basic conventions. Being able to handle very brief communicative exchanges, using common conventional formulas for greetings or addressing someone. Being able to extend invitations, give suggestions, apologize, and respond to similar moves.

For more details, refer to the competence table available in the reference syllabus for level A2.

2 For a comprehensive description of the linguistic actions that a learner with an A2 level of proficiency in Italian should be able to perform, refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (F. Quartapelle, D. Bertocchi, Trans.), 2002, La Nuova Italia, Oxford, Milan (pp. 72-119; 149).
